History of B.S.C.

In 1965, a group of citizens, recognizing the need for recreational facilities in Haverhill, decided to organize and promote the provision of some of the major facilities on a non-profit basis. They formed a Board of Directors under the name of “Bradford Swim and Recreation Center, Inc” (BSC). The intention of this group was to build a pool and recreational facility that would be an extension of your backyard. The club would provide a family strong environment promoting affordable swim lessons for all members, exposure to competitive swimming, and a safe and fun recreational area for the summer months.

The original Board promoted our club and gathered families to purchase bonds to fund the construction of this unique Center. The facility includes a 75’x75’ swimming and diving pool with a separate kiddy pool. There is an enclosed kiddy play area with playground equipment and an Arts and Crafts area. The Club provides a shaded eating area with a full service Snack Bar for the members’ enjoyment. A large recreational field/courts can be found on the property allowing for baseball, basketball, frisbee, horseshoes and many other fun games for the children and adults. 

In 2016 the facility was expanded to include a second kiddie pool and 50x50  water park as well as an updated playground and basketball hoops. In 2022, a new playground was installed.

BSC has had decades of success. Its swim team program is always a force to be reckoned with, and its swim lesson program is the best deal around. BSC continues to be maintained and operated primarily by volunteers. Our teachers and guarding staff are stellar. Our families continue to come back generation after generation. We are a very proud club!
